Australians all let us rejoice!

Formed in Tokyo in the 1950's, The Australia Society Tokyo is alive and well today, and continues to organise enjoyable social events for Australians and friends living in Tokyo, Japan. Whether you're in Tokyo for 2 weeks, 2 years or permanently, our events are a great opportunity to meet people and make new friends in this dynamic (and sometimes overwhelming) city of Tokyo. Join us today or LOG IN for access to members-only features.

Donate to OIG for aid.
They are a non-profit organisation devoted to the rehabilitation of Minami Sanriku in Tohoku, Japan.

The most current Australian Government advice for Australians in Japan can be monitored online via the 'Smart Traveller Website' at http://www.smartraveller.gov.au.  The level of the advice for Japan overall is "Exercise normal safety precautions". The level of advice for the 30 to 80 kilometre precautionary zone around the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant is "Exercise a high degree of caution". The level of the advice for the 30 kilometre  zone around the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant and areas designated as Planned Evacuation Zones is "Do not travel".

We recommend that you both register and subscribe with Smartraveller by following the links on the right hand side of the homepage of this website. Registering your details with us will assist us to contact you in an emergency and, by subscribing, you will be emailed every time there is an update to the travel advice.

Please make sure you remain in touch with family and friends in Australia so that they are aware of your welfare.

If you have any other Australian acquaintances in Japan, please encourage them to register and subscribe with Smartraveller. This will facilitate the embassy to assist as many Australian citizens as possible in the case of further emergencies. It would also assist if you could notify us if you leave Japan or relocate to another area within Japan.

Another useful website is the Department of Health and Ageing and Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency at http://www.arpansa.gov.au/News/MediaReleases/mr1_150311.cfm This website provides you with advice on exposure to radiation arising from nuclear incidents in Japan.

If you have concerns for a family member or friend located in an affected area, please contact the 24 hour Consular Emergency Centre on 1300 555 135 or +61 2 6261 3305.
