Charity

The Australia Society Tokyo shares its time, talent and funds with those less fortunate in Japan, Australia and New Zealand. We raise money through auctions at our annual Australia Day ball and through the generous support of sponsors and individual members.

In the 2013-2014 period we donated JPY500,000 to both Tokyo English Life Line (TELL) and Heart Tokushima. We continue to support these charities in this current financial period and look forward to announcing the total funds raised at the upcoming AGM.

  • TELL is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing world-class, effective support and counseling services to Japan's international community and helping to address the country's growing mental health care needs.
  • HEART is a registered NPO run solely on a volunteer basis and funded entirely through donations.  They are based in Tokushima, Japan and their aim is to build a community in which companion animals can live free from suffering or cruelty. Their activities include rescue, care and re-homing of stray, abandoned, abused and neglected animals.  They also promote spay/neuter and responsible pet ownership through education and supportive means.

We take our fundraising seriously and in 2012 funds raised at the annual ball were donated to OGA for Aid to help in the rehabilitation of Minamisanriku in Tohoku. In 2011 we donated a total of JPY4,250,000 to the organisations supporting those affected by natural disasters, which included the earthquakes in New Zealand and Japan as well as floods and cyclones in Queensland.
